According to the Wall Street Journal, big data and analytics can be powerful weapons offering a competitive advantage to those businesses interested in collecting more information about their customers. The example brought to the fore by the WSJ is the one of restaurants, which are taking advantage of data to tailor their menus and services, with the ultimate objective to increase their customers loyalty. In this way restaurants aim not only to offer a better customer experience but also to understand the reason why what they are offering is, or is not, appreciated by costumers.
In this sense, mobile apps are beginning to be exploited more and more by restaurants in order to collect data on customers’ preferred food and drink choices, dietary restrictions and spending habits. Based on that, some apps are able to create a guest profile and provide recommendations, which are getting more focused and precise.
